Cleveland Search and Rescue Team is one of the many mountain rescue teams that exist in the upland areas of the UK.
The Team is made up of around 50 men and women, from all walks of life who are on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week to go top the help of people missing or injured on the North Yorks Moors in the North East of England.
In the Team at present we have salesmen and students, engineers and electricians, doctors and policemen, teachers and retired people to name but a few. All have a background in the outdoors whether as walkers, mountaineers or climbers and all dedicate a lot of their time into their mountain rescue training. None of the Team is paid for their mountain rescue activities.
In order to be prepared for the wide range of incidents that the rescue team is called to deal with during a normal year its members train regularly.
Mountain rescue skills involve :
-First Aid
-search techniques
-radio skills
-Land Rover driving
-team work
-working with helicopters
-working with search dogs
-liaison with other emergency services
-navigation
-search management
-equipment familiarisation to name but a few
When a new member joins the team he or she is a probationary member for at least a year. During this time many it is expected that they attend at least 60% of the evening and weekend training sessions.
Even people who have been involved in the mountain rescue team for 20 years must attend a high percentage of the training sessions in order to keep familiar with the complicated equipment that we carry and to learn the latest rescue and search techniques .
Being in a mountain rescue team involves committing a lot of time to training, keeping fit and to attending call outs.
During 2002 members of Cleveland Search and Rescue Team attended 39 mountain rescue incidents. During a normal year we expect about 25 such incidents.

Thanks a bunch for doing that its a great write up and very much appreciated.
At the moment we are heavily fundraising and looking for any sugestions if you have any inovative ideas.
We are looking to raise about 150.000 this is alot less than other teams as we feel a big glamorous base will not benefit the casualtiy any more than a small one.
We have looked at getting grants but as you are probably aware we do not reach many of the criterias.
Again i thank you for your support and comments and look forward to the correspondance/comments the new website gains.
