Boxes of Love in Abundance

Over 320 boxes of love were sent from Great Ayton's Love in a Box Appeal to Children in Distress to distribute to poor children in Romania this Christmas.

Christ Church Great Ayton was bulging with boxes last Sunday as they came in from all services, local schools and also from St Margaret's RC Church in the village. (Pictured are children who came to the special service with some of the boxes)

Vicar of Great Ayton, Paul Peverell said, "We were delighted with this year's response. They will make such a difference to some children this Christmas" Pupils at both Marwood Church of England Infant School and Roseberry Primary once again supported the appeal, and this year all the forms at Stoklesley Comprehensive school also took part, filling boxes full of small gifts for poor children in Romania to enjoy.

At the special service at Christ Church on Sunday afternoon, Roy Wheeler, the local organiser from the charity Children in Distress, showed photographs taken last year when the boxes were handed out. Some of the recipients live in hospices or hospitals run by the charity, but many others are in surrounding towns or even living on the streets in Bucharest.

Mr Wheeler described how many of the children with HIV/ AIDs that the charirty initially set out to help, have now survived into adulthood due to the increases effectiveness of drugs and the care they receive. Some have been re-introduced back into their families, and another charity has now been set up to care for those now over 18.

Of all the presents we give this Christmas, this may be the most appreciated.
