Residents of Great Ayton are being encouraged to send a box of love to an underprivileged child this Christmas through the annual Love in a Box Appeal which takes place at Christ Church at 5pm on Sunday 16th November. The idea is that you make up a Christmas present for a boy or a girl, by filling a shoe box full of small gifts. These are then taken over to Romania by the charity Children in Distress and distributed to poor and disadvantaged children.
Romania is one of the poorest countries in Europe and many children will get little else for Christmas, save the present delivered by Santa through Children in Distress. Knowing that you are making such a difference to some young child for Christmas is a most enjoyable experience.
The appeal has gone out through the local schools - Marwood Church of England Infant School, Roseberry Community Primary School and Stokesley Comprehensive - as well as the local Churches.
"Anyone is welcome to join in who wants to make a difference for a poor child somewhere else." Says Canon Peverell. Leaflets advising what to do are available in the back of Christ Church on Gusiborough Road. Completed boxes, suitably wrapped and with £2 for transportation costs attached, can be brought to Christ Church on 16th November at any service, but there will be an extra special Love in a Box Service at 5pm
