Thieves Make off with Brass plates

Last weekend theives entered Christ Church in Great Ayton and made off with four solid brass offertory plates, used each week for taking the Sunday collections. The plates had been donated over the years by previous vicars and Churchwardens and are inscribed as such on the back. Vicar of Great Ayton, Canon Paul Peverell said, "The plates have lived at the back of Church to be used for services for over a hundred years now. It is sad that someone has seen fit to remove them. Worshippers can be assured that this theft wont stop us taking the collection on Sunday!"

Christ Church is open each day for visitors and this is the first time there has been such a theft in the sixteen years Canon Peverell has been Vicar. "It is sad that these things happen, but we are determined to keep the Church open as so many people value it in the community. The best protection the Church can have is for more people to drop in"

The four brass plates are around 10" in diameter and have engravings around the lip. If anyone hears or sees anything of them, please contact Canon Peverell on 01642 722333
