AN award-winning author encouraged children to enjoy a good book when he visited a Teesside school.

Alan Gibbons, who has been writing children's books for the past 17 years, told the story of his success to students at The King's Academy in Coulby Newham, pictured above Alan Gibbons meets King's Academy pupils.
His visit coincided with the Northern Children's Book Festival, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in Newcastle this month.
He spoke to students from Years 7, 8 and 9, and chatted to sixth formers during his day at the academy.
And signed copies of his books, including The Demon Assassin and Shadow of the Minotaur.
He said: "It was fantastic to come here and have such an enthusiastic group of students to talk to. They asked me a lot of questions and hopefully those who have not been so interested in reading in the past will feel more inclined to enjoy a good book."
Principal Chris Drew said: "Alan was a real inspiration throughout his day here."
