Help with history of Hemlington Hospital

A FORMER patient of Hemlington Hospital would like some help in tracing its history.

Pam Marquis-Andrew writes: "I have little idea where to start with researching this, and wondered if any readers had some information that would prove interesting and useful for me.

"I have contacted South Tees Health Authority freedom of information department, but have so far received nothing from them.

"The basics of the story I am researching are these.

"As a child, I was a long-stay patient in ward 12 of Hemlington Hospital, having many operations on my left hip. My name at the time was Pamela Andrew and my date of birth is 12th October, 1968.

"I was admitted to Hemlington Hospital in the early 1970s (either 1972 or 1973) and remained an in-patient for almost two years and an outpatient at Middlesbrough General Hospital for many years after that.

"My consultant at the time was Mr D Caird who, I believe, is now deceased. I was cared for by Sister Davies, who died recently.

"As I have now recently celebrated my 40th birthday, I am intrigued as to the history of Hemlington Hospital and what I went through as a child. I would dearly love to get hold of any medical history from this time, but so far it is proving very difficult indeed.
"I look forward to hearing from anyone who can help."

If anyone can, please write to Memories, Gazette Building, Borough Road, Middlesbrough, TS1 3AZ.
