Review: Lingfield Farm, Coulby Newham

MY FRIEND and I were out to lunch and a sign at the roadside tempted us with a promise of Golden Greats - two courses for £3.95.

The Lingfield Farm at Coulby Newham offers a choice of seven main courses and four puddings on this menu which is available Monday to Saturday between noon and 5pm.

My friend and I opted for the same meals and, with a little girl in tow, a children's meal was also ordered.

A moderate portion of scampi, chips and peas was delivered alongside a children's meal of pizza and chips by a friendly member of staff who made sure we had all we needed before we settled down to our piping hot food.

The breaded scampi, chunky chips and a portion of garden peas with a wedge of lemon certainly hit the spot.

With pudding too is was going to be quite a feast for a lunchtime.

The children's meal was yummy and there were lots of toppings to choose from which meant you could build your own pizza for a few extra pence.

Other options on the children's menu included traditional sausage and mash, and fish fingers and chips. For the more adventurous, cajun cones - three tortilla wraps with strips of spicy chicken, served with wedges and a BBQ dip - could be a mouthwatering experience.

Puddings on the children's menu included ice-cream and lollies or maybe a warm muffin served with cream, hot custard or ice-cream.

After only a short wait, the arrival of our dessert order of two steaming bowls of rhubarb crumble and custard revived fond memories of good old school dinners for us both.

A Smarties lolly kept the little one quiet while we reminisced about the past and discussed our favourite school meals.

Recently a new light bites menu has been introduced at the pub which caters for all tastes if you only have a small appetite. All are priced under £4.

There are also larger sized meals if you're feeling more hungry.

The pub also hosts theme nights and has a curry club on a Wednesday night.

It's certainly a place with something for everyone.

OUR ORDER

Scampi, chips and peas, and rhubarb crumble and custard x2 @ £3.95 each: £7.90

Children's meal, pizza and chips: £3.99

Smarties lolly: £1.35

Total: £13.24

Verdict: ****
