Homes of OAPs in brick attacks in Hemlington

THE windows of three separate houses where pensioners live were smashed in a ten-minute spree of vandalism.

House bricks were thrown through the windows of three houses in Hemlington - two in Beckenham Gardens and one in nearby Bridport Grove.

The attacks happened between 5.05pm and 5.15pm on Monday and police believe the same person or people were responsible.

Half of a house brick narrowly missed a chair where one of the pensioners sits in her living room.

A woman whose window was smashed and who wanted to remain anonymous said she didn't feel comfortable in the area anymore.

The estate backs onto a playing field and last night groups of youngsters were gathered playing or chatting.

Hemlington Ward officer, PC Brian Hughff, said: "As a result of these incidents we will be stepping up patrols in and around the estate, particularly in the lead-up to Halloween and Bonfire Night."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 1761 Brian Hughff on 01642 303126 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
