MORE than 650 knives, swords and other bladed weapons have been surrendered in a "no questions asked" amnesty.
In the past week they include six in Hartlepool, 67 at Redcar and Cleveland, 24 in Middlesbrough and 69 in Stockton. The breakdown total is: 46 in Hartlepool; 223 in Redcar and Cleveland; 100 in Middlesbrough and 288 in Stockton.
Among the tally are domestic and decorative ceremonial blades, a flick knife disguised as a cigarette lighter, a knuckle duster with a wrap around blade and a saw. The amnesty began on September 4 and will finish on October 12.
Special bins are available at Kirkleatham, Guisborough, Redcar, Saltburn, Loftus, Eston, Middlesbrough Coulby Newham, Stockton, Billingham, Thornaby, Yarm and Hartlepool police offices.
