Cleveland Fire Brigade has changed their approach to fighting fires, now we try to stop the fire before it starts.
We would rather come into your home, sit with you for fifteen minutes and try to educate you in home fire safety.
This is not just to make sure you never have a fire but to teach you and your family to formulate a fire plan, what to do if a fire broke out in your home.
We will even takeaway some of the more dangerous items you have in your home and replace them with more up to date and safer alternatives. If you still have a chip pan (chip pans still account for a large number of fires in the home) we will take it away and exchange it for a deep fat fryer or if you still plug three or four electrical items into one socket we will give you a four gang extension cable and all this is FREE.
We also fit smoke alarms, again FREE, because if a fire does break out in your home you want to know about it as soon as possible so you and your loved ones have enough time to get out safely following your fire plan.
So do we still rescue cats from trees? Yes if the cat is injured and cannot get down we will rescue it, but we would rather teach the cat to not get hurt and stuck up the tree in the first place.
