Hunting for the tippers in Hemlington

CHARITY workers are turning detective to find out who dumped a pile of industrial waste on their doorstep.

Staff and volunteers at the Unicorn Centre in Hemlington were greeted by a mound of plastic sheeting, a front door, uPVC panels and window panes and other trade rubbish which had been fly-tipped on the track to the centre.

Manager Claire Pitt is trying to find out who left the mess - and believes someone must recognise the brown wood door which has stained glass windows.

"It’s very distinctive and I’m sure someone must know whose door it is, she said.

“Fly-tipping is unsightly, it really doesn’t do anything for the appearance of the charity and it’s illegal at the end of the day.

It is not the first time the good cause has been blighted by litter louts. In February the Gazette reported how fly-tippers had left everything including the kitchen sink in the same spot.

“It just seems to be a very regular and frustrating occurrence, Claire added.

A spokesman for Middlesbrough Council has urged anyone who wants to report incidents of fly-tipping, or has information about this case, to call 01642 726 001.
