A SOAP star swapped Coronation Street for the King’s Academy to help raise funds at the school’s carnival.
Helen Flanagan, who plays Rosie Webster in Coronation Street, spent hours signing autographs at the academy in Coulby Newham.
The event raised more than £2,300 for the school’s charities, the Butterwick Hospice, Great North Air Ambulance and the Uhuru Ministries in Kenya.
Some pupils completed a sponsored fun run on the day and raised a further £250.
Students performed music, took part in a five a side competition and manned stalls. There was also a parachute experience, giant dodge ball, face painting and a barbecue.
Helen is the cousin and god-daughter of Claire Cooper, who teaches French at King’s Academy. Claire said: “We often go shopping together and it is strange when everyone follows you around. But it is really exciting seeing Helen on Corrie.
Helen began her TV career when she was just five, and joined the Street when she was nine.
Principal Chris Drew said: “It was great to have Helen with us and the students were thrilled to have a TV star in their midst. The day was a great success.
