Nunthorpe Athletic Under-10As seal second

THE Under-10As clinched runners-up spot in North Riding Division One after a competitive evening game against visitors Coulby Newham.

Nunthorpe got off to the better start pushing Coulby back into their own half for long periods.

As the home side pressed, several chances presented themselves but Nunthorpe could not capitalise, coming up against a resolute defence and a keeper on top form.

The half drew to a close with both sides remaining goalless.

Nunthorpe continued to press in the second half and the only goal of the game came midway through the second half.

A neat clearance from defence by Cooper found Wilson out wide, he laid the ball off into the path of Bird and taking a touch he let fly from outside the area with a rasping drive.

The shot proved too hot for the Coulby keeper to handle and his parried save fell into the path of Josh Holden, who, losing his marker at the back post, took the ball under control before smashing home from close range.

This single strike proved enough to see Nunthorpe home 1-0.

The Nunthorpe manager, coach and parents can be very proud of everything the team has achieved but most of all the boys, who should feel very proud of themselves.
