Following an appeal in the Gazette for sports equipment for a school in the village of Yundum, many groups came forward to help. They included youngsters from Marton FC’s Under-13s team, pictured above, who offered donations of football kits, boots, tennis rackets and even pogo sticks!

Barbara Dixon, from Acklam whose son Luke, 13, plays for the team, said: “I asked if anyone had any old kits and by the next week we had bin bags full of about 16 kits for all different age groups.

The appeal was launched by Hartburn mum Erica Lowe who has financed the school in Yundum for the ten years. She said the children are delighted with the donations and thanked all those who helped, Gambian youngsters pictured above.
