A DATE has been set for a crucial stage in the battle to save a wooded area in Middlesbrough from development.
Middlesbrough Council wants to sell off the Longridge site at Marton.
They have agreed the sale of the site to housing developers Yuills for more than £8m.
But a campaign is being waged by local residents to preserve the wooded site.
They have applied to have the area declared a Village Green to prevent it being developed. A hearing before an inspector will begin on December 3 in the Town Hall. The campaigners say the site is of huge importance. Middlesbrough Council will point out the site has been earmarked for housing for a number of years.
