SOUTH Bank Women's Centre is a registered charity and company limited by Guarantee and was established in 1987 by a group of women to provide training, an educational resource, advice and guidance, support and a drop in facility for women.
It is supported by free crèche facilities for children aged up to eight years, for women attending courses.
This being the centre's 21st anniversary has brought about some dramatic changes.
The centre, off the A66 near Asda, is to be re-branded into Tees Valley Women's Centre, encouraging more women from a wider area to access services.
Development of a social enterprise in providing full day care from September 2008 for children up to three years old at £3 per hour, enabling women to access flexible childcare at a reasonable cost.
All of the above are to be adopted at the centre's AGM on October 14, 2008, when the centre opens its doors to all women and would encourage participation from all of those who would be interested in joining their board of directors.
