Two men have been charged in connection with an alleged dog fight using a banned breed in a Teesside back alley.
James Harland, 20, of King Street, South Bank, and Daniel Tate, 19, of Cresswell Road, Grangetown, each face three criminal charges.
They are accused of causing animals to fight, animal cruelty and owning a prohibited breed - a pit bull terrier.
The prosecution say that they jointly owned the terrier, named “Chico and used it in a fight at the back of King Street on January 7 this year.
It is claimed that unnecessary injury was caused to animals in the alleged fight, with a Staffordshire bull terrier used as a “bait dog.
The RSPCA bring the case against the two. A first hearing was held at Teesside Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The two defendants have not entered pleas and were not present at the hearing.
The case was adjourned until later this month.
