A CAFE and florist business has been set up at the Acklam Cemetery and Crematorium site in Middlesbrough.
Middlesbrough Council's Bereavement Services Forum recently backed the idea of the facilities being provided.
The café and florist is operating in a temporary building and the council's food safety team has inspected the café and given it four star status.
If the business proves viable consideration will be given to relocate the facility to a better position in more appropriate premises on a permanent basis.
Debbie Groom, the owner of the shop and café, said: "I am delighted as so many people have said what a good idea this is."
Barry Coppinger, the council's Executive councillor for community safety, said, "I am pleased we have been able to trial this facility which improves the on-site amenities that we can offer visitors to Acklam Cemetery and Teesside Crematorium.
"The burial and cremation service operated by the council is one of the top 10 in the country according to a national benchmarking scheme and this will make it even better".
The café and florist shop is open every day of the week, except Mondays, from 9.30am to 4pm and is located next to the Acklam Cemetery Lodge.
