ACKLAM Under-17s beat Lanchester 60-0. They started slowly but after ten minutes they found their game pattern.
They were always more competitive throughout the game, and once they started to win quick ruck balls, the Acklam backs took advantage of the space in front of them.
What was encouraging for the coaches was that even though they were winning comfortably, they played as a team and this resulted in some excellent unit skills being displayed, achieved by good support play - a tribute to the team's fitness.
The Under-16s travelled to Ryton and it was a narrow 12-5 victory for them.
In the first period it was all about stout defending on both sides, with neither pack giving anything away and both sets of backs up quickly and tackling well which resulted in a 0-0 scoreline at half time.
The second half saw Acklam's backs get some quick balls and Liam Cochran charged forward, delaying his pass to draw the Ryton defence and pop a pass to Aadmire Ngunga to score in the corner.
Ryton came back but Acklam defended with vigour and from a mid-way scrum, Matty Stockwell at eight picked up and charged forward, passed to Ben Dickinson, who ran down the touch line and round under the posts to score. He then converted to make the score 0-12.
Ryton still battled away and finally breached Acklam's defence, breaking the line and scoring to set up a furious last few minutes but neither side could add to the score despite massive final pressure.
