DID you see an elderly woman targeted by a thief riding a bike?
A 73-year-old woman was walking past the Salvation Army Centre on Trimdon Avenue in Acklam at around 1pm on Sunday when a man on a bike approached her from behind.
He grabbed at her handbag, containing cash and a bus pass, and some shopping bags but she held onto them and was dragged a few meters along the ground before she let go.
The callous thief then rode off at speed down the side of the Salvation Army Centre towards the fields opposite Hesleden Avenue at the rear of the Salvation Army Centre.
The victim was left shocked and injured, with bruising and pain to her left arm and back of her head.
Officers believe several people drove past the area at the time of this incident and police are asking for any witnesses to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Iain Pearson of Middlesbrough CID on 01642 303126 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
