Youngsters open new chapter of fun in Acklam

pirateparty.jpgPIRATES Ahoy was the call from youngsters in Acklam Library, Middlesbrough, at the launch of scheme to encourage reading.

The pirates party was held to launch National Bookstart Day in Middlesbrough. Themed activities will be taking place in Middlesbrough Libraries with parrots, pirates and teddy bears!

Under-fives can earn stickers and certificates at the library and any child joining Bookstart's Bookcrawl programme for under 5s can claim a free Bookstart bear while stocks last.

Pirates will mark National Bookstart Day and National Children's Book Week in Redcar and Cleveland.

Next week's line-up is:

Monday October 6: Brotton, 1.30pm-2.30pm, pirate crafts and stories with the Community Animateurs.

Tuesday: Redcar, 10am-11.45am, pirate themed Rhyme Time, Roseberry, 1.30pm-3pm, Skelton, Rhyme Time with Sure Start.

Wednesday: Roseberry, 10am-11.30am, Rhyme Time sessions.

Thursday: Brotton, 3.30pm-4.30pm, pirate crafts with the Community Animateurs.

Marske: 9.30am-10.30am, Rhyme Time sessions.

Dormanstown: 10am-11am, pirate-themed Storysacks with the Community Animateurs.

Ormesby: 10am-11am, pirate-themed Rhyme Time with Sure Start, plus pirate display.

Loftus: 10am-noon, extended Rhyme Time with Sure Start.

Redcar: 1.30pm-2.30pm, pirate-themed Storysacks session with the Community Animateurs.

Guisborough: 2pm-2.30pm, pirate party to relaunch Rhyme Time.
