POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman had her bag stolen on Tuesday night.
The woman, in her 20s, was walking alone along The Crescent in Linthorpe when she was attacked.
A 20-year-old white man of medium build approached her from behind and knocked her to the ground before running off with the handbag.
The woman was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Police hope that a description of the man's clothes may help their hunt. He wore jeans with a distinctive horizontal stitching across the knees and was wearing a dark blue or black hooded top. Anyone in the area at the time is urged to contact the police.
DC James Emery, leading the investigation, called the incident "a cowardly attack on a lone woman".
