NEIGHBOURS of Mr Jolly’s Circus aren’t laughing.

Residents of Trimdon Avenue, Acklam, have said they should have been consulted that a circus was coming to town and fear that traffic will increase in their already congested street.
But as Mr Jolly’s Circus is on private land, the only people who need to be consulted are the police.
The police did not object to a temporary events licence being granted which will allow the circus to be on the field for 96 hours and to attract a maximum of 500 people.
This move has upset residents who say it should have been better advertised and worry their garages which are in the dead-end of Trimdon Avenue could be blocked off by circus-goers.
Leo Barnbrook, 61, who has lived in his house, which is adjacent to the field, for 36 years, says he’s concerned about the traffic not the circus itself.
“What worries me is where all the cars are going to park.
“There are young children around here so I am more worried about the traffic.
“That field has always been green land for as long as I have been here and nothing else has ever been on it.
Wife Marilyn, 58, pictured above with grandaughter Niamh Freeman, echoes his view and says she too is not averse to the circus, but is bothered about the car parking situation.
“I think we should have been notified instead of hearing it through the grapevine.
“Plus now they’ve let one on, what next?
Mother-of-two Michele Freeman, 39, walks her dog on the field, she is concerned that the field may be ruined.
“I’m concerned about what might be left behind when the circus leaves, said Michele, a receptionist.
“That field is known to have drainage problems. Plus I hope circus-goers will be responsible and not leave their rubbish on it.
Mother-of-three Wendy Hamilton, 43, added: “I’m concerned about the parking but it’s not every day you can look out of the front window and see a camel on the field.
Circus owner Peter Jolly wished to reassure residents that the circus, due to open today, will not cause disruption, he said: “Parking will be at the other end of the field away from houses and all the noise will be contained inside the Big Top.
“Generators will not be near to the houses and cars will enter the field from Low Lane.
