AN APPLICATION to fell a protected tree in Bisham Avenue, Linthorpe has been refused by Middlesbrough Council’s planning committee.
Consent was sought because it was considered the 50-year-old silver birch, which is protected by a tree preservation order, was causing damage to a nearby garage.
Ernie Vickers, group planning officer, told the planning committee: “Given that the tree is an extremely prominent tree in Bisham Avenue and is of substantial amenity value, its removal would seem to be disproportionate to a problem of minor damage to a single garage.�
Councillor Steve Bloundele said: “The tree is a spectacular feature of the landscape.�
