SEVEN-YEAR-OLD Joe Horner was grinning from ear to ear after becoming the youngest Gazette Crossbar Challenge medal winner.

Joe is a member of Kader Under-8s - the stars of this week’s Crossbar Challenge. And the pint-sized defender was the only member of his team to successfully rattle the crossbar.

The challenge marked the start of their pre-season training as the boys prepare for the Teesside Junior Football Alliance season, which kicks off again soon.

And video journalist Joanne Emmerson captured all the action on film.

Chris O’Hara, whose son Charlie is a midfielder for Kader, contacted Grassroots and suggested the team take part.

And no doubt young Joe was glad he did.

The young lad was proud as punch as he left the pitch, and was sporting a huge smile and admiring his medal.

His achievement means he is the youngest-ever challenger to win one of our medals - well done, Joe.

And who better to present him with it than his team captain, Charlie Marshall.

Gazette People photographer Angie Weall was unable to attend the challenge so it was left to Joanne to also take a photograph. And she managed to take this one with her mobile phone - readers can also send pictures from camera phones via MMS message. Start your message with the word PEOPLE and send to 07738 544 873.
