Theatre: Boy expelled for theft

A 14 year old boy was expelled from naval college for alleged theft of a postal order. His father fights for two years to clear his name, in the process bringing himself to financial ruin.

This is the basic plot behind Terence Rattigan's 'The Wiinslow Boy" being presented by Billingham Players at the Theatre Upstairs, Belasis Avenue, Billingham from 19th to 24th February (evenings at 7.30pm).

The boy in question is played by 12 year old Jame Gamblin (pictured).

Despite his age, James already had an impressive performing CV thanks to the Forum Theatre School , having appeared in ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’, as ‘Belling’ in ‘Smike’, as ‘Tiny Tim’ in ‘A Christmas Carol’, and as both Michael and John Darling in two different productions of ‘Peter Pan’. James has also appeared in a number of Billingham Players productions, most recently in the Christmas production of 'Tales from the Arabian Nights'.

James also plays the piano and is a Grade II violinist.

Tickets Monday and Tuesday £5 (£4 concs), Wednesday to Saturday £7 (£5 concs).
Available by ringing 01642 551981 or 01642 586180 or call in to Sue's Alterations, Belasis Avenue (next to theatre), and HK Housewares, Norton Village.
