STAFF at James Cook University Hospital decided to use an alternative method of getting into the Christmas spirit this year.

To reduce healthcare-associated infections, clinical areas cannot put up decorations that cannot be cleaned, pictured above children from Normanby Primary School bring some Christmas cheer to Ward One at James Cook university Hospital.
But to keep up patients' spirits staff on Ward One called on three primary schools for help.
Pupils from Nunthorpe, Normanby and Highcliffe primary schools put pen to paper to draw Christmas pictures, which have been laminated so they can be cleaned.
Ward sister Kelly Russell said: "The feedback has been tremendous and a lot of effort has gone into the drawings."
Director of nursing and patient safety, Tricia Hart, said: "A decision was taken last year not to put up decorations in clinical areas. We have to show we are doing everything possible to reduce our rates of healthcare-associated infections, such as MRSA and clostridium difficile.
"However keeping patients' and staff morale up is also very important, so I'm delighted the ward and pupils have worked together to come up with this alternative way of spreading a little bit of Christmas cheer."
