Acklam Under 14's under Floodlights

Acklam Under 14's 0 v Billingham Under 14's 15Great experience for the young lads to play their first floodlight game which turned out to be a very competitive match against very good local rivals Billingham. Acklam had five players playing in their debut game and each one contributed in strengthening the squad. Matthew Dunning (Newlands)played the second half on the wing, Ryan Shaw (St. David's) played the second half in the second row, Jordan Mullin (Kings Manor) played prop in the second half, Ollie Smith (Kings Manor) played the second half on the wing and James Wood (St. David's) played nearly a full game both on the wing and o/s centre. Well done lads, welcome to the team!
The evening was cold and handling in the early stages of the game was fragile from both teams. Acklam's tackling allowed Billingham to make good yardage before they were eventually stopped, although in the second half the tackling did improve.
Acklam failed to make use of the conditions in the first half but turned round only 5 points down.
In the second half Billingham pressurised the Acklam defence by good ball pocession and playing the game wide at all opportunities, but the Acklam defence stood up well. The two second half tries was caused by loose play on the Acklam try line, the third try was the last play of the game.
This was a good , honest team performace by a very committed Acklam team, with just a little more belief in their play (must win more 50:50 balls) there is no reason why they will not make good progress in the second half of the season.
