Middlesbrough youngster leaps into first place

sarahlowe1.jpgTEESSIDE dancers have stars in their eyes after a series of winning performances in a major dance championship.

Starlet Sarah Lowe, 13, pictured, followed up her victory in the modern dance category of the All England Dance Championships two years ago with a winning song and dance routine this year.

The national competition, held in Manchester, saw Sarah dance her way through two tough rounds, before reaching the semi-final of the competition.

It wasn't until the third day that Sarah, from Marton Road, Middlesbrough, ultimately claimed her first prize.

Proud mum Joan Lowe, 53, said: "When they win at Manchester or even just get in the final it's brilliant for them.

"Sarah works really hard and she's got a lovely voice."

Joan and Sarah receive help from Jackie Dale of Ingleby Barwick, whose daughter used to dance.

Jackie, 55, helps Sarah prepare for competitions, assisting with dance routines, costume choices and hair and make up.

The trio's efforts have obviously paid off, as this year, Sarah also reached the final of the modern dance category she won two years ago.

Joan, a child minder, said: "She's done fantastically well. I'm extremely proud of her whether she wins or not because I couldn't get on stage."

Samantha Moore, who teaches Sarah at her stage school, said: "This event is the biggest event of the year and it's the hardest. It's really hard to get into a final let alone win and Sarah has done really well."

Samantha also had two other finalists in the competition, in which the stage school made its 61st appearance.

Ellie Mae Potter, 12, was in the song and dance final which Sarah won and Francie Jo Heward, 16, reached the senior tap final.

Maloney Stage School, in Borough Road, Middlesbrough, also enjoyed success at the All England Dance Championships.

Georgia Beth Percival, 15, from Normanby, won in the senior tap category, while another Maloney pupil, Hannah Marram, 12, from Hartlepool, took the junior tap title.
