A MIDDLESBROUGH church has started work on a long-awaited community garden.
Parishioners at St Agnes in Easterside will soon be able to use the new green area for quiet reflection and relaxation.
The Reverend Margery Grange, pictured, is the priest-in-charge of the church, and said her flock are excited about getting the garden project under way.
She said: "Part of the area will be a garden of remembrance, where people can make donations to have flowers planted in memory of their loved ones.
"We have raised some funds like that so far, and also had help from local businesses and development agencies."
One such business is the Sainsbury's Local in Easterside's shopping precinct.
Manager Carl Duckling said: "The church contacted us about getting some funding, and we wrote to the people who deal with the charity grants. They approved a grant of £300, and it's a pleasure to be able to hand over the money for the garden."
