A CHICKEN that crossed the road - and probably a railtrack too - is waiting to be reunited with its owner.

Shocked Maria Wall saw the bird outside her home on Hutton Road, Longlands, in Middlesbrough, at around 5pm on Saturday evening.
Worried for the chicken’s safety, she took it in overnight and called the RSPCA to come and collect the bird she has named Jessica.
But 47-year-old Maria says the animal charity told her to call the police as it was a matter for lost and found!
She rang the police who referred her back to the RSPCA.
Maria has now decided to try to trace the owner by herself and look after it until then.
“I have had to leave it in my shed, the poor thing, said Maria.
“I can’t leave it outside for the dogs or foxes to get hold of.
“I have a Great Dane and a cat. If they saw it they would have a fit. I have been feeding it corn, lettuce and water for the time being.
Maria believes Jessica has probably come from the nearby allotments in Berwick Hills but the chicken would have had to negotiate a number of fences and a railway line to make it to Hutton Road.
“It was just walking on the pavement outside. It obviously belongs to someone, it has probably come from the allotments but I don’t know how it has made it this far.
“She is lovely. I’ve never known such a friendly chicken. We just want to get it back to its owner.

Hi,
This evening I found a chicken outside my front door which was reluctant to leave. I have a cat so put chicken in garage. Phoned RSPCA and same thing happened. They told me to phone police and police said if anyone phones looking for it they will ask them to phone me. Meanwhile I have a chicken in the garage, very cute one, friendly. Wonder what happened to Maria's chicken! Regards
