On Tuesday 25th November the Gallery visitor was Alan Brown, a photographer from the Sunderland area. He has been retired for seven years and travels extensively with his wife. He was very entertaining and had a wide range of work to show us.
He calls himself a "born again photographer", saying that in the last two years he has noticed a big change in his photographic style. He no longer takes the "obvious" shots of the subjects that adorn calendars and postcards, appear framed on our walls, and which he disparagingly calls "karaoke images", but looks for details to make creative compositions. He is particularly drawn to steps, railings and strong shadows. He also has a pass for sports events and has some wonderful sports' action images.
It is not easy to describe his style. If you are interested in seeing some of his images, I can refer you to a website called "Putting Photography First" where he exhibits his work. http://www.ppfuk.com
Thursday 27th November will be our monthly practical night. The subject is "Lightroom for Beginners"
Next week Tuesday 2nd December our landscape competition will be judged by Malcolm Blenkey.
