A MIDDLESBROUGH councillor has had an extension granted to the time he can be away from the Town Hall.
Ill-health has prevented Thorntree councillor Walter Ferrier, pictured, attending any council meeting for almost six months.
Cllr Ferrier, the longest serving councillor in Teesside, could have lost his seat on the authority because of his absence.
But the council's corporate affairs committee has agreed Cllr Ferrier's absence due to illness should be regarded as a valid reason for him not attending council meetings and that his absence should be authorised for a further six months.
Fellow Thorntree councillor Peter Purvis said: "Cllr Ferrier has given many years service to the community and the local authority and the committee also agreed to send its best wishes to Cllr Ferrier for a full recovery."
