North Ormesby Community History Group spent months researching their archives and trawling through hundreds of photographs to create a historical display at their health village, pictured above one of the pictures on show.

Speaking at Thursday’s launch, Ann O’Hanlon, chair of Middlesbrough Primary Care Trust said: “This is not only an opportunity for us to celebrate 60 years of NHS care but is also an opportunity for us to remember all the people who have worked so hard throughout the years to provide healthcare to North Ormesby. The area has strong links with healthcare, from the creation of the first cottage hospital in England to the building of North Ormesby Hospital and then to the development of the new health village, which will provide healthcare in the years to come.

“I would like to thank the North Ormesby Community History Group and Woodgate Design for their help in charting the history of health in North Ormesby. Some of the hospital artefacts were rescued before the building was demolished and some were donated by local people who have helped to bring the past to life.

Adrian Moule, a local sculptor who worked on the project, added: “The group can be really proud of the work done here. It provides the opportunity for the group to have a ‘museum’. It also shows the NHS and PCT caring about the community.

“Pupils from both North Ormesby Primary School and St Alphonsus’ RC Primary School worked with me on sculptures in Kings Road. I’m very impressed with their work and have received positive feedback from members of the public.

North Ormesby Community History Group thanked everyone that helped make the project possible.

Why do people have to use the silly address of "Chair" when meaning Chairman? Time that they learned the English language. A chair is an item of furniture. A Chairman is the title of the person who "Chairs" a meeting whether male of female. It is not a term of gender.
