MUM Annmarie Short, who loves trying her luck with Evening Gazette competitions, has finally struck lucky, winning a £5,000 shopping spree.
Now the school cleaner is looking forward to treating her two daughters and splashing out for herself after winning one of the Evening Gazette’s biggest ever giveaways.
Annmarie, 50, of Park End, won the £5,000 shopping spree after collecting 12 tokens and answering a series of questions correctly.
She gets to spend the £5,000 on whatever she wants.
Annmarie, who is married to Harry, 53, a steel worker at Corus, is looking forward to putting some of the money towards her dream holiday to Egypt.
She also wants to treat her daughters Emma, 26, who is married to Ben, 31, and lives in Leeds, and Nicola, 29, from Park End, and her fiancé Ben, 32.
And she hopes to buy a new freezer for her home.
Annmarie said: “When I found out I’d won, my first reaction was shock because I send competitions in but you don’t think you are going to win.
Now she is looking forward to spending the money.
She said: “I’m going to give some money to my daughters - Emma and Ben will choose something for themselves but Nicola is looking for a house.
“I’ve always fancied going to Egypt. We’ve been to sunny climates but I’ve always fancied seeing the pyramids and I think I’ll do that next year with my husband Harry.
Annmarie has worked at Unity City Academy since it opened five years ago, and before that she was a cleaner at the former Keldholme School.
She is now looking forward to going back to work when term starts next week to see her colleagues’ reaction.
“I don’t know what they’ll say. I go back next week and I’ll see them then, she said.
