Saltburn boss is ‘loopy’ for his cause

philipthomson.jpg AN ARTS association boss went loopy at the weekend - but it was all for a good cause.

Philip Thomson, pictured, chairman of the Saltburn Community and Arts Association, set out on Saturday to raise sponsorship funding for the group’s £300,000 capital and maintenance programme by attempting to complete the Langbaurgh Loop.

His hike marked the 21st anniversary of the establishment of The Loop - an open challenge walk of 38 miles starting and finishing in Saltburn.

The route includes Huntcliff, Hummersea, Boulby, Robin Hoods Butts, The Quakers Trod, Westwood, Highcliff Nab, Roseberry Topping, Eston Nab and Beacon Moor.

And after a 6am start, a tired but happy Mr Thomson - who is also a Redcar and Cleveland councillor - completed the walk 10 hours later.
