Shoppers at Saltburn's popular monthly Farmers' Market can help keep the chills at bay and raise funds for the town's Allotment Association by enjoying a bowl of winter warming soup on Saturday, November 12, between 9am-3pm and will take place outside Sainsbury's, near Saltburn Railway Station.

Market organiser Lorna Jackson from Saltburn's Real Meals Deli and allotment holder Emily Stewart will be making a Spicy Farmers' Market Soup using fresh ingredients from the Market itself - and all profits raised from the day's soup sales will be used to help maintain and improve the town's 160 allotments.

Lorna Jackson said: "We're really looking forward to this. We'll be making the soup using ingredients from the Market, including fresh seasonal veg from the local allotments. "Saltburn's allotments are literally just a few hundred yards up the road from the Market, so it really doesn't get any fresher or more local than that!"

Allotment Association secretary Sue Featherstone said: "We love the Farmer's Market, and have a stall every month to raise funds to help maintain and improve the allotments. "We currently have 160 allotments, with at least two-thirds of each garden used solely to grow fresh fruit & veg, and I think the Farmers' Market is a great place to come and buy good quality locally produced seasonal food."

Adding a seasonal foodie tip, Sue said: "This is also a great time of year to catch parsnips at their best. The first frost brings the sweetest parsnips, with the frost converting the starch into sugar. So the soup is going to be a proper treat."

Coast & Country, one of the largest regeneration and housing companies in the North East, has announced that the first set of homes at Hummersea Hills in Loftus will be ready for tenants in two months' time.

A total of £22 million is being invested to transform the rundown estate, which was formerly known as Westfield.

Fifty properties - a mixture of two bedroomed bungalows and two, three and four bedroomed houses - will be available to rent from September.

A special information event is being held on Thursday July 7 at the Loftus Co-op Building, from 10.30am to 2.30pm to inform residents about the availability of and how to apply for the new homes.

The 50 properties form part of the first phase of the scheme, which involves constructing 300 environmentally-friendly, high quality homes.

Iain Sim, Coast & Country Chief Executive, said: "The completion of the first 50 homes for rent is an important point in the regeneration of Hummersea Hills, which will result in a vibrant, secure and attractive neighbourhood where people will want to live.

"Hummersea Hill will be an estate that is fit for the future where residents and families will want to remain for years to come."

The area's old, poor standard properties are being replaced with high quality two, three and four bedroomed houses and two bedroomed bungalows.

The regeneration of Hummersea Hills will also involve creating a more open and accessible development with improved car parking to the homes, better road layouts and a greatly enhanced overall living environment.
The homes incorporate eco-friendly design and technology that will ensure they are energy-efficient, have a low carbon footprint and are cost-effective for residents to run.
The development of Hummersea Hills is also creating much needed employment and apprenticeship opportunities for local people.
The scheme's first phase has received £3.9m in funding from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

Eventually there will be homes available at Hummersea Hills for rent, shared ownership and sale.

For more information about the July 7 event, contact East Cleveland Housing Office on 01642 836004 or email enquiries@cchousing.org.uk

Notes to editors: Coast & Country Housing: Established in 2001, Coast & Country took over the ownership and management of homes from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council in July 2002.
The Company is a 'not for profit' local Housing Company limited by guarantee. It is a Registered Social Landlord (RSL) and is regulated by the Tenant Services Authority.
As the largest RSL within Redcar and Cleveland, its current rental housing stock totals 10,309.
Its properties and estates are located in a diverse range of urban estates, seaside resorts and rural villages. Coast & Country believes that working together with local communities to find local solutions is a key factor in building and sustaining communities.
Delivering high quality homes Coast & Country is contributing to the prosperity, wider regeneration and sustainability of the communities within the immediate region and beyond.
Coast & Country aims to ensure that its regeneration work will have a positive impact on people's lives, achieving a careful balance of new homes for sale and for rent creating the kind of neighbourhoods that will flourish well into the future.

Xtra Special Free Range Treats at Saltburn Farmers' Market on Saturday 11 June, as we welcome free-range eggs from rescued hens.

The eggs are on sale from new stallholders David Laing, Grewgrass Lodge, Marske.

Retired policeman David Laing and his wife Christine transformed Grewgrass Lodge from an empty shell into a rural idyll offering green tourist holiday retreats in four acres of woodland. Now, perching happily amongst holiday visitors from as far afield as Australia, Canada and South Africa, over 200 free-range chickens wander happily through the woods alongside an array of ducks, pheasants, rabbits and the occasional roe deer.

The resulting eggs are proving popular with people buying directly from the lodge and now Saltburn Farmers Market shoppers can look forward to buying the eggs for themselves from Davids stall on Saturday June 11.

David Laing says: "We feel quite lucky to live the life we do every day here. We're surrounded by wildlife, and our hens are free to roam in the woods and grassland all day long. It's almost like a big family, with the hens coming and going into their huts as they please at the end of each day. "We have two types of hen; firstly the distinctive Black Rock, laying large eggs with distinctly yellow yolks, and we also have a lot of former battery hens laying large tasty eggs on an almost daily basis.

Saltburns popular Farmers' Market has proved a big hit since launching in Easter 2008 and now regularly attracts over 3,500 people to the elegant seaside town with a huge mix of locally produced food, drink and artworks.

Saltburn Farmers' Market features over 25 stalls and will take place outside Sainsbury's, near Saltburn Railway Station, between 9am-3pm on Saturday 11 June.

Youngsters taking part in Coast & Country's Future Leaders project have helped create outside improvements at a nearby school for children with special needs

A group of students from Freeborough Academy in Brotton gave up free time to dig out pathways to improve wheelchair access, planted shrubs and helped install a gazebo at Kilton Thorpe School.

The five young people worked under the supervision of mentors from Coast & Country - Mark Walker, Charlotte Bagley and James Welford.
Iain Sim, Chief Executive of Coast & Country, one of the largest housing and regeneration companies in the North East, said: "The Kilton Thorpe project demonstrates the benefits of our Future Leaders initiative.
"It provides valuable life lessons for young people which will stand them in good stead when they enter the world of work or the next stage of their education, and gets them involved in worthwhile community projects."
Kevin Thompson, head teacher at Kilton Thorpe School, said: "The Freeborough students are a credit to the area. They are to be commended for giving up substantial amounts of their free time to help improve the outside environment at Kilton Thorpe, where they have done a fantastic job."

Six schools from across the Redcar and Cleveland borough are taking part in this year's Coast & Country Future Leaders scheme where one young person will win the prize of an apprenticeship with the company starting in 2012.

They are Bydales, Marske, Sacred Heart and Redcar Community College, all Redcar, Nunthorpe, Laurence Jackson, Guisborough, and Freeborough, Brotton.

Those taking part face a series of challenges including organising, budgeting for and completing community improvement projects and taking part in an outward bound course.

One student, who demonstrates initiative, team working and leadership qualities, will eventually be named a Future Leader and will be awarded an apprenticeship with Coast & Country.

Saltburn Farmers' Market has more fresh seasonal specials on offer at its third market of the year on Saturday 14 May - with the return of some of the world's hottest chillies right on time for a summer full of barbeques.

Market organiser Lorna Jackson said: "We've had a great start to the year, with our first two markets being as busy as ever. And now we have some special early summer season treats to look forward to.

"Yorkshire Chillies are coming along for the first time this year with a brand new crop. They're always a welcome guest at the Market, and had sold out of the world's hottest chillies by 11am the last time they were here in October.

"This time round they're bringing plenty of Super Hot Demon, Cherry Bombs and Poblamo chillies. Poblamo is ideal for putting whole on the barbeque and firing up everyone's taste buds this summer.

"And Garth Cottage Nursery from Newby Wiske are bringing an enormous range of kitchen herbs, including a batch of new season Elephant Garlic. You'll guess by the name that it's absolutely huge in comparison to regular garlic - but it's actually milder and much more delicate than you'd expect.

"So we're looking forward to another busy day - and there's plenty of great cafes, shops and bistros in town to help make a visit to the Market a great day out for all the family too."

The popular Farmers' Market has proved a big hit since launching in Easter 2008 and now regularly attracts over 3,500 people to the elegant seaside town with a family-friendly mix of locally produced food, drink and artworks.

The TTE Technical Training Group has joined forces with Cleveland Potash to showcase engineering apprenticeships on offer at the mining giant.

Cleveland Potash, which plans to recruit ten apprentices this summer, is holding presentations at its facilities at Boulby, East Cleveland, in May to allow young people and their parents to see the kind of careers available at the company.

Cleveland Potash, which employs approximately 800 people, has worked in partnership with TTE, for many years to ensure its annual intake of apprentices are trained to the highest standards to meet the future needs of its business. Its latest batch of apprentices will start their training in September.

The open evenings take place on May 16 and 17 from 5pm to 7pm. People interested in attending are advised to book as soon as possible as places are limited.

Keith Leslie, TTE Apprenticeship Business Director, said: "Apprenticeships allow people to earn while they learn as well as equipping them with the practical knowledge and skills to pursue a fulfilling career.

"The open evenings will give those interested in an engineering apprenticeship the opportunity to find out about the training provided by TTE at its South Bank workshops and the practical onsite experience provided by Cleveland Potash."

Craig Hargreaves, Cleveland Potash Training Manager, said: "Delivering apprenticeships with the support of TTE is an ideal way for companies, such as Cleveland Potash, to secure a well-trained, committed and competent workforce of the future.

"These events are designed to inform students, who are set to leave school or college in the summer, about the apprenticeship career opportunities available at Cleveland Potash, which is keen to attract future generations of maintenance technicians into the business. "

Those interested in applying for one of the apprenticeship placements should contact Mr Hargreaves on 01287 646620 or email craig.hargreaves@clevelandpotash.co.uk for a recruitment pack.

Coast & Country, one of the largest regeneration and housing companies in the North East, has celebrated the official start of a £22 million plan to transform a rundown estate.

The milestone in the estate's transformation was marked by a ground breaking ceremony involving Anne Mulroy, Head of Area at the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and pupils from Hummersea Hills primary school who helped choose the new name for the estate.

The first phase of the scheme will see national building and development firm Southdale Ltd construct 300 new-build, environmentally-friendly, high quality homes at Hummersea Hills in Loftus.

Southdale are Coast and Country's preferred developers and have already carried out the ground preparation and demolition of 108 houses on the estate which was formerly known as Westfield.

The area's old, poor quality housing is to be replaced with high quality two, three and four bedroomed homes and two bedroomed bungalows.

The regeneration of Hummersea Hills will also involve creating a more open and accessible estate with improved car parking to the homes, better road layouts and a much enhanced overall living environment.

In addition and in partnership with the local Primary Care Trust, Coast and Country are also facilitating the development of a new health facility on the estate which will provide much needed modern health services.

The development of Hummersea Hills is also creating much needed employment and apprenticeship opportunities for local people.

Coast & Country and Southdale have joined forces with The Redcar & Cleveland Employment Partnership, to match local people with construction skills to the work opportunities that will be available during the construction process.

Iain Sim, Coast & Country Chief Executive, said: "Our ground breaking event marks the next important step in the journey towards creating a housing estate fit for the 21st century.

"This project is another example of agencies working in partnership to make an estate where people will want to live and an environment of which they can be proud.
"This partnership will deliver a range of sustainable housing, to suit the needs of today's and future generations."
The scheme's first phase has received £3.9m in funding from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

"This scheme will make a real difference to life in the area," said Anne Mulroy, Head of Area at the HCA. "In difficult economic times, Coast and Country, their partners and the local community are all playing their part in transforming the area as well as creating employment and skills opportunities.

"We are pleased to be working closely with both Coast and Country and Redcar and Cleveland Council to bring forward a range of affordable housing and regeneration schemes across the borough."
Paul Moore, managing director of Southdale, said: "Transforming a community through the provision of top quality modern homes and improvements in the surrounding landscape will make a huge difference to the residents' quality of life. The eco-friendly design and technology that we will incorporate into the build will ensure the homes are energy-efficient, have a low carbon footprint and greatly reduce fuel bulls for residents.
"We're also heavily committed to apprenticeships and are looking forward to providing a range of local employment opportunities during the construction phase."

Saltburn's bustling Farmers' Market is back with all the trimmings for a Christmas Special on Saturday 11 December - and shoppers could find themselves with shoes twinkling brighter than the Christmas Star itself.

A traditional shoeshine stall will see a team of people from the town's busy Emmanuel Church polishing away to raise funds for 'Shoes for Ethiopia,' a charity initiated by Saltburn student Pippa Robson.

Each pair of shoes shined will cost just 50p, the same amount it costs to buy a brand new pair of shoes for a barefoot child in Ethiopia.

Farmers' Market organiser Lorna Jackson said: "This is our last market of the year, and we were delighted when the Church asked if they could come along and do this.

"It's a great cause, and it doesn't matter whether your shoes are black, brown, pink or yellow. The folks from Emmanuel will have them gleaming!"

The Christmas Special tops the busiest year yet for the popular Farmers' Market, which has proved a big hit since launching in Easter 2008 and now regularly attracts over 3,500* people to the elegant seaside town.

Lorna said: "This will be our 9th market of the year, the most we've ever had, and each market just seems to get better and better.

"It's been a big hit with shoppers, and we think that's partly down to groundbreaking TV chefs and campaigners like Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Jamie Oliver and Rick Stein.

"They've all captured people's imaginations and made them question where their food comes from and how it's produced. That's just the type of curiosity we like at the farmers' market, where everything is grown or made locally by the person behind the stall.

"We'll have around 25 stalls decked out with Christmas trimmings, and stallholders will be taking Christmas orders for a great range of locally produced organic meat, game, fish, cheese, fruit & vegetables, specialist wines from Skinningrove, Christmas pies from Saltburn, the organic bakery from Hemlington, and artworks galore.

"So there'll be plenty of great gift ideas for Christmas, a special festive family atmosphere throughout the day, and just a fantastic way to end the year for us before starting again next Easter."

•	Saltburn Farmers' Market will take place outside Sainsbury's, near Saltburn Railway Station, between 9am-3pm on Saturday 11 December.

Saltburn's bustling Farmers' Market is back with a special Farmers Market this Saturday, November 13.
ÂÂ
Due to have a break in November, Saltburn Farmers Market has been so busy all year that a mix of stallholders and customers persuaded Lorna to run a November Market.

The October Market was particularly busy, with the world's hottest chillies, and plenty of other stalls, sold out by lunchtime.

This time round, the world's hottest chillies are in hibernation until next spring, but November is the perfect time of year for organic root vegetables, fresh game, meaty pies, dainty cupcakes, fancy fudge, smoked fish or just a wander round Saltburn Square to soak up the atmosphere.
ÂÂ
.........if you are looking for early Christmas presents there will be plenty ideas at the market with a great range of arts and crafts.

Saltburn's bustling Farmers' Market is back after its traditional September siesta - and lt looks like being spicier than ever when the 'world's hottest chillies' could well be part of a live cookery demonstration this Saturday.
ÂÂ
The chilli is the Bhut Jolokia, and market stallholder Nigel Parker owner of Yorkshire Chillies grows it on his small specialist nursery just north of York, it is so fierce that the Indian Army has just started using it in grenades!
ÂÂ
Nigel said: "People like to scare themselves or boast about chilli heat. It's a pity really, since there's so much more to them than macho posing over a plate of late night vindaloo".

Come along on Saturday and chat to Nigel about how to use different chillies and get the best out of them.
ÂÂ
And ... if chatting is not enough ... come and see chefs from Wansbeck based community kitchen, Real Food Works, cooking up market treats from produce bought on the market that morning. Should be a real bit of 'theatre' to inspire at the market!
ÂÂ
Saltburn Farmers' Market has proved a big hit since launching in Easter 2007, and now regularly attracts over 3,500  people to the elegant seaside town, so, if chillies aren't your thing come for the friendly mix with over 20 stalls including locally produced organic meat, game, fish, cheese, fruit & vegetables, wine, pies, apple juice, cakes, soaps, home wares and artworks.
ÂÂ
Saltburns' Market will take place in Saltburn Portico, near Saltburn Railway Station, between 9am-3pm on Saturday 9 October.
