Saltburn '53 Drama Group is putting on stage Agatha Christie's play "Spider's Web".
This rarely produced play was written for the theatre, and not in novel form. It was first performed in 1954 at the Savoy theatre in London.
The '53 actors are directed by Philip G. Thomson who has successfully directed other Agatha Christie's including "The Unexpected Guest" and "A Murder is Announced". A novelty to the current production of "Spider's Web" is a talented American girl, Winôna Brueggemann, from Minnesota who has taken on the lead role of Clarissa.
Winôna is spending a year in Saltburn helping the Door Ways youth project.
She has studied pre-medicine and theatre for four years and has performed in the USA in several plays, including 'Noises Off' and Brecht's 'Three Penny Opera'.
Her combined study sometimes created interesting days with attending the dissecting room in the morning and drama classes in the afternoon.
Which muscles do you use while acting? She is thinking of following a career in public health, but who knows she may change her mind. "Spider's Web" by a master of intrigue is an opportunity not to be missed.
The play will run for four nights from Wednesday 22nd to Saturday 25th October at Saltburn Community Theatre. Curtain up 7.30 pm. Tickets (£6/£5) are available from Saltburn Health Foods.
