Richard and Judy RIP

Posted by Ian Robson on April 17, 2008 12:11 PM |

Richard and Judy are hardly the big TV names they used to be.

Now, with their chat show showing signs of middle age, they are moving to a channel watched by one man and his dog.

Out goes Channel Four. In comes UKTV.

UKTV? What the UK do they do? Their contribution to the fabric of the nation are enless re-runs of old comedies well past their sell-by dates.

Blackadder? Good first time round but not so funny at the 12th and 13th time.
The same applies to My Family, The Vicar of Dibley, and the rest of the rehashed progs of the past.

Now, joining the station and feeling right at home, we have Richard and Judy.

They're getting a cool £1m each to take their show to the satellite channel so they're laughing all the way to the bank.

Channel Four might be laughing too having cleared the schedules for something more interesting than a bit of banter by a couple who live with each other, work with each other, and bore the rest of us.

R&J have not exactly set the world alight since hopping from ITV a few years ago.

She's still best known for flashing her boobs at a TV awards ceremony while he's remembered as the bloke who didn't steal a bottle of wine.

I can't remember the last journalistic coup they were responsible for. Can you?

In years to come former fans will ask: "Are they still on the telly?."

And, tongue in cheek, you can reply: "Nah, but they can be seen on UK History after the Antiques Roadshow and before a double bill of The Fred Dibnah story."

RIP, Richard and Judy, hope you are happy in your retirement.
