UNION stalwart Jack Jones, who had many links with Coventry, has died at the age of 96.
The former leader of the Transport & General Workers' Union rose through the ranks after being a TGWU organiser in Coventry.
He left his home city of Liverpool to move to Coventry in 1939. He lived in Sheriff Avenue, Canley.

COMMUNITY nurse Hilary Neary has swapped caring for patients for tending her garden after more than 30 years in the NHS.
Hilary completed her nursing training in Dublin before moving to Coventry in the 1970s.
She has worked as a community nurse around the city for more than 20 years, much of which she spent working in Tile Hill.

FIFTEEN years ago Bryony Whitehall (left) tragically lost her life after suffering an asthma attack aged just 24.
To commemorate her life and celebrate what would have been her 40th birthday, her sister Julie is putting on a party for all who knew and loved her.
The money raised from tickets and raffles at the event in August will be donated to the charity Asthma UK.
BEN and Veronica Clark (below) are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.
The couple met in 1956 before marrying three years later and now live in Chestnut Tree
Avenue, Lime Tree Park.

WHEN you send someone to Coventry it isn't usually supposed to be a happy experience.
Try telling that to Anjum Silvy. The 28-year-old, known to everyone as Silvy, is as big a supporter of the city of Coventry as you're likely to come across.
And for good reason. Because when she got sent to Coventry it literally changed her life, possibly saved her life.

JEAN and Sid Williams have celebrated their diamond wedding.
The couple were married on August 7, 1948, at St Nicholas Church, Radford, and, both Coventrians, they have lived in Nutbrook Avenue, Tile Hill, for 54 years in the bungalow that Sid built.

BOB and Mary Marshall have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
The couple, who live in Tile Hill South, Coventry, are both keen ballroom dancers.
They met at a dance hall in Douglas, Isle of Man, in 1942, when Mary was in the WRAF as a telephonist and Bob was on a signals training course while serving in the Royal Navy.

A LUCKY Coventry couple have won a fully paid wedding reception.
Lisa Walden and Andy Jones, of Tile Hill, will be tying the knot at the Holiday Inn, in Hinckley Road, Walsgrave, after winning a competition run by the hotel's wedding fair last year.
Full time mum Lisa said: "I've never won anything before. I am so excited, it's like winning the lottery."
The couple met six years ago after being set up on a blind date by Lisa's brother and his wife.
Andy proposed three years later.
Their daughters Stacey, Chantel and Aimee will be bridesmaids at the ceremony.

MATHS graduate Jack Heal was crowned funniest student of the year in a popular stand-up comedy contest at the Edinburgh Festival.
Hundreds cheered on the Warwick University graduate during a witty monologue about romance, wordplay, and a raging desire to kill his girlfriend with a watering can.

COVENTRY university employee Lorna O'Neill is preparing to embark on a two week trek in the Himalayas to raise money for charity.
The 38 year-old, of Job's Lane, Tile Hill who is completing the challenge with mother-in-law Sue Roberts is aiming to raise £2,700 for Cancer Research in memory of her aunt who died of lung cancer at the age of 56.
