What will happen to UK Government's holdings in British banks - namely RBS, LloydsTSB and Northern Rock.

It seemed as if the Government was paving the way for a sale of Northern Rock. UKFI, which holds the shares, is looking for advisors to help a potential privatisation.

But now Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg says the banks, bailed out by taxpayers in the wake of the credit crunch, should remain in public hands for several more years.

There is lots of talk about Ed Miliband's performance. Suggestions that he is not making enough impact have been splashed across national newspapers.

Of course, his supporters say it is still "early days" and indeed it is. But is there an underbelly of dissatisfaction among his MPs?

Talking to Labour MPs and press colleagues, it seems there certainly could be to put it mildly...

Relations between MPs and the expenses watchdog are less than friendly. In fact, the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) is hated by some of those in the Commons.

IPSA has taken a battering from MPs, claiming it has made a hash of things. But amid mutterings of "false claims" being made, the expenses watchdog seems to have declared: "It's war".

MPs expenses - what a mess

By William Green on Feb 4, 10 01:18 PM

WHAT a mess. A year after the expenses scandal first blew up, the stench lingers on.

It took newspaper journalists to shame Parliament into action, after years of doing nothing to deal with the expenses crisis.

Angry MPs first blasted the media for even daring to cover the story, but as public anger exploded, a major inquiry was launched.

Veteran MP Ronnie Campbell had strong words for rebels Geoff Hoon and Patricia Hewitt, saying: "These ex-ministers just make me vomit.

"Ex-ministers who have lost their jobs are like cry babies. They must be like the only child in their families and if they didn't get their way, they upset everybody else.

"They are entitled to their views of course, but there is always a time and place for these things. But the time has gone.

"It you wanted to get rid of Brown, you should have done it long ago. We have got to get behind him."
