terminator.jpg

It may seem like science fiction and a curious coincidence given that Arnold Schwarzenegger was visiting No 10 last week.

But are defence chief worried about a Terminator becoming reality? Have a look at the UK's new national security strategy to see why I ask the question.

In terms of risks to UK security, it says: "Game-changing technologies, such as artificial intelligence, advanced web applications, and possibly quantum computing, will become mainstream in the next twenty years".

The terminator was definitely a game-changer...

Words from Business Secretary Lord Mandelson today at an event at his Whitehall department. He was talking about the importance of securing economic growth, but perhaps recognised an over-focus on saving the banks?

"Frankly, we didn't have that growth plan sufficiently in place a year ago. We weren't sufficiently identifying the growth sectors in markets and technologies where we are going to find our future jobs. And we dealt with that and we changed the way in which we approach these matters.

Shooting the messenger

Hard-hitting words for the fourth estate from Tyne Bridge MP David Clelland about the Afghan War.

"Our forces can certainly do without the fifth columnists in the British media who are
collectively undermining the moral of our troops and giving succour to the enemy.

"British newspapers must be preferred reading by al Qaida and the Taliban who will be greatly encouraged by the comments they read there," said Mr Clelland in his November Parliamentary report.

A case of shooting the messenger or does he has a valid point?
